Power In Numbers

The human race hurts my heart
I think about this quite often really
I'll probably never stop this belief
until my spirit leaves my body in a coffin

Yes we have made amazing discoveries
and have evolved far beyond belief
But that evolution is part of our failure
We've become to advanced for our own good

Animals were here long before we arrived
They lived off the earth, but earth survived
The food chain was still a normal part of life
senseless violence and cruelty not included

They follow their nature, it's kill or die
yet as civilized as of a species we claim
We choose conquer and control
and let's make the deadliest weapon

Fake green paper is the one true god
but most people don't want to admit it
Power and popularity overrule compassion
Turning a blind eye and likes are the new fad

We ignore things like mass murders
the addiction and homeless epidemics
And act like human trafficking doesn't exist
and someone else will make needed change

We are unwilling to speak up about corruption
keeping our safe lifestyle is more important
So we stay in our little boxes and hide
as we slowly kill the planet without care

Sure some people speak up against wrongs
and groups gather and protest their feelings
But not enough to truly make a change
And because of that nothing will change

I wonder what our breaking point will be
when we finally stop pretending
that the state of the world is in crisis
and we actively all work to make it right

I fear it will be far to late by that point
too much damage and destruction wrought
To long complacency layed in the shadow
And we will not leave the world better off

One voice can speak great power
but the collective voice can't be ignored
I just wish the greed and selfishness
of human nature didn't outweigh the good

Nothing will change unless we change it,
shout out to the brave souls who do speak up.
