Potent Hands

Do you have faith or do you employ reason?

By Skyler SaundersPublished 7 years ago 1 min read

The faiths of yesterday and today are

A result of philosophy. They take

Up a cross, crescent, or David’s own star.

But each rests on feelings for one’s own sake.

Each is mystical and is canned thought for

Minds which seek out just the truth and the facts.

They want to find what may be in store

In another world so this moves their acts.

It is all belief and emotion that

Go into their choices. All of their bribes

To the unknown could not pay even flat

Fees to their collectivist groups or tribes.

If it’s the potent hands of thoughts that sweep,

Then those who boast faith continue to sleep.

This is an interesting question that touches on the old debate between faith and reason. Faith often involves belief in something beyond what can be proven, while reason relies on evidence, logic, and critical thinking to understand the world.
