A Woman in Love

It was a tragic love affair.

From across the room-

he possessed me with his eyes.

I knew I was done for-

as I lay burning in my bed

each and every night

My soul set on fire-

My lungs burst and bleeding-

all the life inside of me-

let loose upon this good earth.

He burned me with his gaze-

left me broken,

like a wounded and dazed child-

bruised and swollen

with only sinew and marrow

left clinging to my shattered body.

As my eyes met his I felt the dark recesses of the ghettos of my soul

open and shut

open and shut

open and shut-

gangsters penetrated

where his eyes bore into me

thieves stole my priceless jewels

rapists tore and plundered

my burning depths

and life dwelled on borrowed time-

I died every time he gazed at me-

sepulchral dirges were played-

venetian blinds were closed-

lanterns lit at night-

spirits let loose upon the ether-

my coffin beckoned.

God whispered-

"You are done for my child. What shall you do darling?"

I had no reply as I was left speechless by the fires that consumed me.

There was no way out of this tragedy-

I was lost when he looked at me-

A soul left to wander this earth

eternally

engulfed in flames

Love at first sight never knew a better existence.
