Portrait

a poem

By Jill ConnerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Cutting out images that one did not make,

But the images - the cutouts - made them.

Natural beige, ivory, peach

punctuated with red - not just a red, but a deeply vibrant red -

and lined with black,

beneath a fountain of light or dark.

A sense of feeling complete,

A longing that's been captured

remains a mystery.

The portrait carries with it an opposite,

It is what they call paperless, or new technology.

I, for example, fill out forms online,

placing information inside of small boxes

for convenience.

Even though, I think it means,

you will be seeing

far less

of me

in the

future.
