king canyon
some people have rock formations in their eyes,
eroded only by the tears they cry.
some people have pebbles in their shoes,
guess they walk a rocky road.
i’ve seen mountains in the souls of some folks I’ve come to know.
but she has crystals in her heart,
and they jingle as she skips.
a sound so musical,
as she’s steady and beautiful.
she picks up some sand and gives me a shoeful.
a gift I never thought I’d be good enough to receive.
yet here I am,
here are we.
but I by myself?
i’ve got canyons in my back.
that’s why I’ll always be the one standing in the back.
