Poem for Ghana | Land of the Black Star, Gold, and Greed
Gold and greed
Oh Ghana, land of the Black Star,
your beauty is woven into the fabric of your people,
yet shadows linger where hope should thrive.
The earth trembles under the weight of greed,
as galamsey claws at your soul,
tearing through forests, poisoning rivers,
and leaving scars on your heart. We stand at the crossroads,
watching as the gold glimmers in the eyes of the greedy,
while your children suffer in silence,
their futures eclipsed by corruption and despair.
Oh Ghana, hear our prayer —
let not the lust for wealth blind us to our roots. In the depths of your soil lies potential,
a promise of prosperity that should uplift us all.
Yet we witness the destruction,
the rivers choked with sorrow,
the laughter of children drowned by machinery’s roar.
May we awaken to the truth,
that true wealth is not measured in gold but in life.We pray for accountability to rise like dawn,
for leaders to remember their duty to serve.
Let integrity flow through our veins like water,
and may justice be the compass guiding our way.
Oh Ghana, may your spirit be unbroken,
your resilience a beacon for generations to come.Let us unite in purpose and strength,
to heal the wounds inflicted by greed and neglect.
May we cultivate a future where nature thrives,
where every child can dream without fear.
Oh Ghana, cradle us in your embrace,
and together we will rise to make you great. In this prayer for you, we find our voice —
a chorus of hope echoing through valleys and hills.
May we protect your beauty with unwavering love,
and honor those who have come before us.
Oh Ghana, land of promise and potential,
we commit ourselves to your greatness once more.
