First a drip, then a drop.

And then, before you even know,

A force is unleashed that just won’t stop

Until every molecule within is let go,

But even still you can’t help but

Feel immense calm and joy

Once the flash and crackle cut

Through the gentle noise.

You’ve even come up with your own terms

For sounds it makes on certain materials.

Sometimes it’s this weather that earns

The deepest, most genuine smiles

That you’ve forgotten how to share

In the more common moments of bliss

Or in the times where you feel so aware

Of what you’re glad you don’t need to miss.

Sometimes you prefer to be safe from

It’s patter and splish and boom and flash,

Curled up with a comfort book in your home,

And sometimes you love to run and splash

In the puddles that form in perfect imperfections

Left on the ground by the leaders of your town.

It’s these times when your deep affections

For rain are restored by its beautiful sound.
