Play a Tune on the Old Guitar

A song just for me

Play a Tune on the Old Guitar

Play a tune on the old guitar for me,

Let the melody float like waves on the sea.

Strum the strings with fingers worn and true,

Sing a story of skies both gray and blue.

Let the chords hum soft, like a whispered prayer,

Filling the silence that lingers there.

Each note a memory, a tale untold,

Of love once kindled, of hearts grown bold.

Play me the song of a summer’s eve,

When the world was young, and we believed.

The sun dipped low, the stars held sway,

And dreams chased the shadows of the day.

Oh, play me a tune, let it carry me far,

To a place where I’ll find who we truly are.

Where the old guitar holds the voice of time,

And every strum is a whispered rhyme.

So play on, my friend, on a sunny summer’s day,

Let the echoes linger, let the song not stray.

For in every chord, I find my way,

To yesterday’s dreams and tomorrow’s day.

I may be partial because I play the guitar (bass, actually, but I play it like a guitar), but this one really spoke to me. Well-wrought!
