Planted

Roots and Branches

It starts with a seed and some good, fertile ground,

A family and a home, anywhere they are found.

*

The sunshine is morals and habits to guide,

Spreading pure warmth everywhere they're applied.

*

Next, is the water, an absolute need,

And that's education, a must to succeed.

*

The branches are skills, occupational choice,

Giving each life individual voice.

*

Efforts to cultivate creatures just so,

May take careful weeding, letting harmful things go.

*

What's the next step in this effort to stem?

Just what will establish a cultivated gem?

*

Grow where you're planted and spread healthy shoots.

The next to be planted will use your strong roots.

I really enjoyed how each element ,sunshine, water, branches reflects a different aspect of becoming. Beautifully done.

Wonderfully written, Julie. I love how you turned this into a lesson of sorts - going step by step. Your image fits the poem perfectly.
