Pixels and Yearning - Addiction
This poem explores the inner world of a student who watches pornography, focusing on the potential feelings of isolation, the search for connection, the gap between fantasy and reality, and the yearning for genuine intimacy.

The screen glows, a cold and sterile fire,
Reflecting in eyes that hold a tired
And shadowed gaze. Textbooks lie cast aside,
Their knowledge mute against the rising tide
Of digital desires, a hollow hum
That vibrates in the silence of his room.
----------------------------------------------
He watches, seeks a solace undefined,
A phantom touch to ease an aching mind.
The perfect bodies, sculpted and displayed,
A promise whispered, instantly obeyed.
But in their flawless grace, a truth concealed,
A fragile heart that struggles to be healed.
------------------------------------------------------
The lecture halls are filled with vibrant sound,
Of laughter shared and friendships newly found.
But he remains an island, set apart,
A lonely sailor with a wounded heart.
He sees the couples hand-in-hand, their eyes
Reflecting worlds he only fantasizes.
------------------------------------------------------
The pixels fade, the screen returns to black,
Leaving an emptiness he can't turn back.
A yearning lingers, raw and sharp and deep,
For something real, a promise he can keep.
Beyond the images, a whispered plea,
To be seen, to be touched, authentically.
--------------------------------------------------------
He closes his laptop, sighs, and stares at the wall,
Wondering if someone will ever catch him when he falls.
