PIECE OF ADVICE

(They say)

Life is about the journey and not the destination.

And

it's not about the money you make, but the love of your vocation.

It's not about where you're going but the means of how you get there.

They say

it's a marathon and not a sprint

and

never really fair.

This life

says that

actions speak louder than words

and you're supposed to find your voice.

But it all falls on deaf ears

because intentions are a choice.

You've got to go out on a limb

to see the forest thru the trees

but slow down and smell the flowers

because there are no guarantees

in life.

And if every moment is a new beginning,

why've I have time to spare?

It seems that slow and steady wins the race

in this life

of truth or dare.

Well my dogs are getting tired

because the cobblers got no shoes.

And my pocketbook is empty from paying all my dues.

If I had a nickel every time I stepped over a dollar

to pick up that dime

Id still be a day late and a dollar short

because

I've never been taught how to hold down the fort.

And i'll always give you a penny for your thoughts

Even if it costs me an arm and a leg

because I don't know any better than to

borrow, steal or beg

to make you happy as the day

is long.

So maybe it's time to sing a different song.
