Pick Me Up

The perks and pitfalls of an afternoon nap

By BrenPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read
Zzzzzz...

so now it has just gone one am

my house is cold, my family asleep

on slipper less toes so no one knows

off to the kitchen i creep

quietly i fill the kettle

and locate my favourite cup

i make myself a mild coffee

cause now i’m here and i’m up

my dog is snoring (and farting)

from his bed besides my chair

occasionally he dream whimpers

it’s nice to know he’s there

a lonely car passes by outside

somewhere early on their mind

but other than that it’s very quiet

like the world has been left behind

that wouldn’t be a bad thing you know

only a few things would i miss

these moments of almost silent perfection;

it doesn’t get better than this

i can tell myself the world does not exist

not since dusk when i drew the shades

but a man cannot live on quixotic ideas

and he cannot hide in charades
