Attention is a funny thing

Some of us crave it

Some of us avoid it

Sometimes it validates us

Sometimes it scares us

I want attention

And I’ll do anything to get it

I’m an actor

I’ll put on a show

I’m funny, when I want to be

I’m smart, when I want to be

I’m interesting, when you want me to be

I’m caring, when I'm needed

I’m anything, for a price

And validation is the best form of payment

But when I go home

And our time together is over

I’m not acting anymore

It’s just me and myself

And without an audience to perform to
