Was born a twin on lofty sea above
In reckless haste we leave our wrath with thee
The ocean is a lover, drawn to you
We watch you ageless shadow dancers two
And reap the glory - all too carelessly
As heaven’s glow defies the night, you dance
We sit upon our guilty hands- and wait
But if you turn away to take reprieve
We slay the sea with our cruel display
Your eye awakes - looks out through hooded lid
And it grows in terror and cold dismay
As our wars and waste have killed your lover
Seas of black oil and fire run down its face
As your eye grows broad the tide goes inward
And as you wane it quickly goes away
You pound on the chest of your oldest friend
But know her voice will never leave the cay
We have killed our planet with our venom
And worse- we left her corpse out in the bay
So as you paint circles in the heavens
Will you not wake the sea to make us pay?

Wooohooooo congratulations on your honourable mention! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
The language is sophisticated yet deeply emotional. The cadence and rhythm echo the motion of tides, reinforcing the poem’s themes of loss, remorse, and cyclical destruction.
