Peggy Lou
By John Matthews
She sat in the back row.
Cute dimples on her rosy cheeks.
Always raised her hand to speak.
Waved at him when she walked on by.
That girl was smiling and looking his way.
She was always polite and said Hey.
Her name was Peggy Lou.
She had long brown hair
And pigtails too.
Bright blue eyes.
And a smile so great that took Jim away.
She was always winking her eye at him.
That girl’s smile was a win.
She really made his day.
He was a shy and a quiet one.
Hardly talked to anyone.
He was afraid to make a move on her.
Her name was Peggy Lou.
She had long brown hair
And pigtails too.
Bright blue eyes.
And a smile so great that took Jim away.
Till one day he thought he got confidence.
He just smiled back and walked away.
He could not find the right words to say.
His heart started racing.
and hands began shaking.
He walked up and spoke.
Can I take you Out Friday night?
Her name was Peggy Lou.
She had long brown hair
And pigtails too.
Bright blue eyes.
And a smile so great that took Jim away.
It was Friday night,
and he took her out.
They went to a fancy Steakhouse.
She looked so fine in those tight blue jeans.
See through top if know you what I mean.
He had the Steak and she had Shrimp.
Her name was Peggy Lou.
She had long brown hair
And pigtails too.
Bright blue eyes.
And a smile so great that took Jim away.
Jim took her home leaned in and kissed her lips.
Peggy said she had a great time.
Asked him if, he wanted to come in for a glass of wine.
They both sat on the couch and kissed some more.
Till her father walked in the door.
He was not happy and told Jim to leave.
Her name was Peggy Lou.
She had long brown hair
And pigtails too.
Bright blue eyes.
And a smile so great that took Jim away.
Peggy Lee’s dad would not let him see her.
He felt so heartbroken
and fell on the floor.
He cried so hard he could not believe.
Was she finally through with him?
What was it her father did not see?
Her name was Peggy Lou.
She had long brown hair
And pigtails too.
Bright blue eyes.
And a smile so great that took Jim away.
Jim came down to her house one day
and saw a U-Haul truck pull away.
She came outside with her dad and mom.
Jim felt like his heart had shattered.
She ran and hugged him and said goodbye.
A teardrop fell from the corner of her eye.
Her name was Peggy Lou.
She had long brown hair
And pigtails too.
Bright blue eyes.
And a smile so great that took Jim away.
She slipped a paper in his hand.
Kissed his lips and whispered in his ear.
Said she loved him and wished she could stay.
He felt so bad she had to move away.
They both wrote sometimes but lost touch.
He always would remember her so much.
Her name was Peggy Lou.
She had long brown hair
And pigtails too.
Bright blue eyes.
And a smile so great that took Jim away.
