Pear Orchard
Roots and Branches Challenge

she airs laundered whites
in the welcome light
stretches her toes into the chilly soil
raises raw hopes to a spotless sky
welcomes her kindred to a well-kept day
-
fueled by obligation and persistence
she fills her lungs with the with the endless pulling
of shoots that reach for migratory dreams
of roots forged into iron-willed filigrees
of growth in validation of intent
of soft fruit flushed with sweet accomplishment
of solitude gleaned from community
-
I dress pale
at the first bloom of the sun
pick my way in sandals of damp grass
raise my bare arms to touch the icy blue
clasp the hands of my cherished ones and sing
-
I exhale and lean into the pressing
recognize resistance, then then surrender
of trembling strings beneath my fingertips
of words cast from the molds of poetries
of tint and hue set gently on display
of fiber contoured by suture and shear
of solitude gleaned from community
-
my origins were planted with young trees
the need for comfort brings me here today
I join her in the irrigated grove
I let my mind run windblown and shoeless
on the tenth of April
