Peace Is All I Wanted

You wanted War

Peace Is All I Wanted

Peace is all I wanted, nothing more,

Not riches, not a crown, not perfect days.

Just quiet in my chest when night falls down,

And mornings that did not arrive with pain.

I searched for it in people, places too,

In words that promised shelter from the storm.

Peace slipped away each time I clenched my fists,

Like water that refuses to be owned.

Peace is all I wanted, yet I learned,

It comes when I release what broke my heart.

It lives where anger ends its long campaign,

And grief no longer guards the door at night.

Now peace sits with me, fragile, real,

It does not shout, it never tries to shine.

It breathes beside me, steady, calm, and warm,

And asks me only to let things be mine.
