Peace Demands Sacrifice

It takes a monster to conquer another monster

She bowed to no one

Fear followed her everywhere she went

Shadows claimed her

Grief was her one companion

Chaos lived in her bloodstream

Her M.O. was anarchy

No being alive could rival her power

She even looked death in the eye and said "fuck your fate"

Her enemies didn't bother begging for mercy, knowing she had none

Once she unleashed her rage, there were no survivors

She rid adversaries from the world by swallowing it in her umbra

The magnitude of her carnage was so severe, storms could not compare

Silence in the aftermath of her destruction screamed desolation

The air would herald her approach with the tang of blood and ash

Her touch could raze a kingdom; her smile could claim a soul

Her glare could crush a planet, while her shadow could consume a star

And she unapologetically did it all

Was she a villain?

Or simply estimated wrongly?

If she was salvation, then we were in hell

Her demons were a testament to that

Who was she?

That was the mystery

Only Oblivion knew her name

Knew her truth, her reason for being

An angel with the passion of the devil

She was a balance of light and dark

But she could not be both savior and devastator

The world would not allow it

For as long as she lived, people would only know terror

Yet no one could deny there was a divine beauty in her violence

Like watching a falling star- she was poetically devastating

A force of nature

Dark... Enchanting

Flames on a path of obliteration

She restored harmony in a time of war the only way she could

By letting herself burn alongside evil

What did peace cost her?

everything

Author's Note: This is a poem about the Main Character in my book. If this poem hit hard, just wait 'til you read her story. But I must warn you if you choose to read it, guard your heart. For I aim to shatter it.

'An angel with the passion of the devil' - That line really stood out to me Brin! Very well done!

    I’m obsessed with this poem.

  • Then let our hearts be shattered, for this sounds a story which demands to be both told & heard.

I find this quite empowering, actually!

  • It takes a lot to shatter my heart because I'm an empathic sociopath. Lol. But I always welcome a challenge! Loved your poem!

This is why I subscribed to you, Brin! love the darkness, uncertainty and ominous feel! crafted so beautifully! Interesting sidenote- I published a piece called Masterpiece of His Abuse that inspired and plays a significant part in a horror story I'm working on that is shaping to be unsettling and devestating!! your awesome author's note made me think of that! great work as usual, Brin!
