Path Lab Poem

A poem I wrote about work in work.

We are blood transfusion and haematology,

specimen reception, coagulation and biochemists

saying all this makes me feel very bright

🥼

We wait for all the couriers to bring our GP work

though the pods are never-ending, phone calls non-stop

and we do our best to keep our lab coats white

🥼

we get all sorts of tubes and specimens

the blood vacutainers come in many colours

it’s often a surprise that makes it an interesting night.

🥼

We book the samples in by scanning

cards and tubes on big computers

and hope the labels don’t tear or fight

🥼

I once heard on the radio last week

about a specimen pot in a jacket potato

what was inside will give you a fright

🥼

Sometimes it’s calm, but we’re often busy

here in the Path Lab, we’re the best MLAs

cause at the end of the day, it’s always alright.
