i will not unfurl

in your spotlight. i bloom best

in your long shadow.

~

i am not the type

to critique or condemn you

at least not out loud.

~

i cry handing you

your cracked watch, knowing you'll soothe,

"accidents happen."

~

wide-eyed, i attest

any punishment i dole

is all for your sake.

~

you cannot resent

the bruises that result from

asking me to dance.

~

sorry, love, it is

my way to hand you the rose

then kiss your pricked palm.

About the Creator

Sonia Heidi Unruh

I love: my husband and children; all who claim me as family or friend; the first bite of chocolate; the last blue before sunset; solving puzzles; stroking cats; finding myself by writing; losing myself in reading; the Creator who is love.
