Paper Heart

Remnants of a heart trapped in a cycle of repair and despair.

By Kenneth cruzPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

In no time, you crafted this paper heart.

Then tore it apart, only to restart.

Scotch tape in hand you replaced each part.

You mended and stuck pieces back like a child’s work of art.

Only to destroy it again, then reshape it into paper-Mache.

I wished this time together it stayed.

Like clay, you molded with care, only to crush it the following day.

Scalpel and mallet in hand you caused dismay.

I’d never guess I was just a mouse in your game, easy prey.

My love a work of art led astray.

Now only pieces remain, frayed and decayed.

This paper heart, I’m prepared to let blow away.
