Painted Over

When your voice is not the one they want to hear

They scream, “Silence!”

Because when you speak, it stirs the masses

And they want to keep the masses sleeping

-

When your actions are seen above theirs

They shove you into shadows

Because when the masses see, questions are asked

“Why are you not the one who has power?”

-

When your face is not the one they wish to depict

On their mural of society

They yell, “Leave!”

And grab a bucket and a brush

-

Sealing over every gap in the walls they put up

Every crack that you have seeped through

Stroke by stroke, in a hue of their choosing

They paint you over
