Outside The Spectrum
Entry for the 'Colour Is Pride' competition.
Ultra-Violet, Infra-Red,
Searching the unseen instead,
Waiving safe, secure borders,
Thinking into all the corners,
Slowing down to savour heat,
Speeding up to spite defeat,
Penetrating falsehoods nigh,
I furiously wonder why.
The broken I can mostly mend,
Perfection I can't help but rend,
Time for you and all that come,
Yet I've no time for anyone,
Too soon, too late, too high, too low,
Statistics say I made it though,
Take none of me, or take me all,
Empowered leader; sullen thrall.
Immobilising scalding turns,
And retroactive freezing burns,
And showcased pain and battlescars,
And accolades and shooting stars,
And sage advice and raving spells,
And shattered dreams and wishing wells,
And grand ideas and feeble thoughts,
My kindness and my heartless wroughts.
I dance the spectra sane and able,
Creating worlds outside the stable,
Most will never know or see,
Quite the breadth of mine and me,
But if you squint, or use your tools,
You'll cross my coloured mask for fools,
You'll see me there in blazing light,
Beyond the reach of standard sight.
I wait here watching motes react,
For ones from whom the lines refract,
I send those back who lost their way,
I pity those who cannot stay,
I march beside you all in stride,
I never turn or try to hide,
Though I act green or red or blue,
I never can be one of you.
