Outcomes

And playing with repetition.

I've died.

In the crook of your arms,

The bend where your thoughts turn

From hopeful to dismal,

I've died.

.

There was no other outcome.

Not some fluttery happy ending

That makes the cinema smile with tears

Gathering in their eyes because

There was no other outcome.

.

It's a ruse.

I wake up early, before the birds,

For the same reason I stay up later than owls,

To avoid the unavoidable fact that

It's a ruse.

.

I'm a ghost.

Stuck in the walls of this house like plaster

Wondering when I'll be able to break out and live a life

That glitters like gold when I know I can't.

I'm a ghost.

.

Ghosts are dead.

And this is all a ruse.

There was no other outcome

Because I've died already

And this is just a recording.

Each stanza in this hit like a stab! The use of repetition was so well done! I love how the final stanza tied it all together. This is reminiscent of some poetic forms but so unique too!

Ouuuu, damn, Silver. Piercing, as always.

That first line made me ache and then you just pulled on all heartstrings in my body. So evocative. So sad. But, as ever, written so powerfully with such skill.
