Our Shared Hidden Pain
Poem About Our Emotional Hideaways

Behind the smile
And beneath the skin
*
Lies the ever-looming fears
We keep hidden deep within
*
Our hours drag on slowly
Or perhaps fly on by far too fast
*
The disguises we wear each day
Cracked and scarred with memories of the past
*
Don’t remove the mask in front of them
Can’t let all this pain put on show
*
Quickly patch up your mask
Or soon they all may know
*
How silly we are, each and every one of us
As we try to fade and hide away in this mortal game
*
For behind our neighbors’ masks,
Their tears fall the same

Beautifully written, it captures that quiet truth we all share but rarely admit.
This poem beautifully explores the universal nature of hidden emotional pain. I love how the imagery of masks and disguise conveys vulnerability and shared human experience.
