Our Beautiful Rainbow

The Rainbow After the Rain

Yesterday, we saw a world of color

It was blue and green and grey; we saw the shades of one another

We had blue skies, laced with white

We had navy, sparkling night

We had grass

Evergreen grass

We would watch each other pass

On grey sidewalks, on sandy beaches of peach

All we had to do was reach

And we could find a hand, find a friend

We didn't know that this would soon come to an end

A darkness came when a sudden night fell

And we were kept away in a domestic cell

For me, this was a chance to create myself to see the world the way it had once been

Evolve my own shades so I could finally feel my true skin

You see, the world for me had never been my world

I watched from this same window as life around me unfurled

There was grief, sadness, pain...pain all around

I knew at the end of this, there was someone to be found

He was a man, a stranger who silently passed through the colors of life

But he had always been cut away from that life with words sharp as a knife

I saw in this still screen

A chance to let myself finally be seen

This was a rebirth, a chance to be free

In a house with four walls, I had to find me

I had to find that man who had always been below my false surface

To uncover him so he could live; that became my purpose

He existed in a liquid the color of a pale and yellow flame

He existed in a paper with a new name

I cried for what I saw, I cried for who we lost

Inside me, some kind of line had been crossed

This time has made me see how all of life is precious

What we share between you and me, what we have in us

I knew I had to grow, I had to be

I had to become so I could see

All of those beautiful colors waiting outside my window

They were waiting to show me all those things I didn't yet know

That natural essence other men shared

I had been so afraid and for once I dared

I made a call and I was cleared to begin my beginning

I used a silver needle where a hormone would drip; a puncture that sometimes made red with its sharp stinging

Inside me from a vial of yellow was a new life; I was anew

When this world reawakens, imagine all the things we can do

If we can create ourselves and learn to be true

What wonders, what colors of the world wait for the real you?

We will have a blue sky

We will see each other cry

We will see one another on the kaleidoscope street

We will laugh and sing and hold loved ones when we meet

Despite the pain, all of the world learned to evolve

I learned to evolve

And we will watch as all of this grief will dissolve

It will dissolve into a dark memory, a melancholy memory blended with so much we have shared

We will remember how much people cared

We will see the green grass, we will see the white cloud

We will clap and rejoice with parted pink lips, our voices loud

When our doors can open and we can walk outside

We will hold our heads up; our scars will be our pride

We will share all those ways we learned, all of the secrets we now know

Together, we will make a beautiful rainbow.
