Ordinary Day

America Burning

By Donny FoleyPublished 12 months ago 1 min read

It was an ordinary day

Sun came through the windows to wake me up

Snow, freshly fallen from the night before, covered the street and cars

Breakfast needed to be made

Laundry needed to be done

A perfectly ordinary day

How strange it is that such an ordinary day will have changed the history of the country I live in forever.

I wonder if the people who woke up on December 7, 1941, June 6th, 1944, or November 22, 1963, felt the same way. Felt that that day would just be ordinary

Maybe days that change the course of history have always felt ordinary.

I suppose out of the ordinary things can happen on ordinary days.

A country can agree that annexing Canada and Greenland is a good thing

A country can agree that "there are only two genders" damning all the kids who do not fit into those categories to lives of ridicule and hate

A country can agree that it's a great idea to elect a 34 time felon as President of the most powerful country on earth.

Yes, very out of the ordinary things happening on this ordinary day.

This piece is like a wake-up call in disguise! It takes the ordinary and turns it into something heavy, reminding us how unexpected history can be. Solid reflection on the world today!
