Orbit
Is love a star that burns you until it collapses and the black hole sucks you in? Or something more?

My last girl was named Star
Radiant, hot, kind of dense
Worlds revolved around her
She spat fire, prone to flares
Eventually went cold
Became a black hole
As they sometimes do
Empty attraction
Drew me in
Devoured me with cosmic hunger
And when she was done
Scattered my atoms
Through space and time
Too distant to see another shine
*
Then gravity pulled me back together
Random matter
A husk of stardust debris
I spin on with the days
Orbiting everything
Falling towards nothing
Infinite space to myself
It’s quiet out here
Peaceful and cold
A glacial shell of frozen daggers entombs me
Protection from shooting stars
And I sleep, oh let me sleep
No need for the bold
I prefer the cold
*
I thought sound was impossible in space
Then I hear you through the ice
Someone who is different
There’s more to you
More than some light, fated to fade
Your heart is warmer than that
When you speak I see colours in the black
Sonic nebulas
Your laughter hits me like an asteroid
Knocks me off course
Into the orbit of your eyes
Explosions
Twin supernovas melting everything in me
And I awaken…
*
Burning.
*
You’re no mere star
For better or for worse
You might be my universe.
About the Creator
Phil Lovell
As someone who never really connected with poetry, I have been suprised to discover how much I enjoy writing it. It gives me an avenue to explore the philosophical side of my thinking, and explore my creativity a little. I hope you enjoy!
