Only the Fittest improve their Fitness
With Nature as their Witness
For some of us, life is a game
Yesterday's gone, Tomorrow's the same
For people, we made life rather tame
A life that is tame is not a life that is lame
We've adapted to the world, and now make the world adapt to us
We can change the planet's face, if it gives us a fuss
There'll always be a battle between people and nature
We make tools and environments, constructing our fate, sure
Other animals don't have our own gifts
This homes, their environments, they must be perfect fits
When it comes to biology
There's reproductive strategy
R or K selected,
Propagation, how do they perfect it?
In the survival of their progeny, how much are they protected?
How much time and energy will these parents have invested?
Yet, even if it seems that they don't care about their youth
I must tell You, this is not the fundamental truth
Animals of varying species care about their offspring
Giving the best chance for their species is the parent's only offering
Some babes are fully formed, already running on instinct
Other's must stay by the parents' side, having to learn behaviors that are distinct
Some parents can't help their babes, since the parents still need to survive
Other species die for their kids, self-sacrificing their own lives
Some provide their babes with their own first meals
Milk, blood, prey, hay, even their own flesh, that's the deal
Some animals can only hope if given the circumstances
That if they produce enough offspring, some'll survive given the "Chances."
