only seventeen

something that feels like a country song

he was sweet seventeen, i was just a kid,

he made me feel more special than my daddy ever did.

a folded note slipped into my hand,

his number mine,

and he became my man.

.

just a random chance meeting

in tuesday’s record store,

but that crumpled piece of paper

was impossible to ignore.

.

‘cause when you’re starving for affection,

and never felt wanted too,

scraps from any dog’s bowl

taste like nourishment to you.

.

all i ever wanted was a little love,

softness, warmth, to be held like a dove.

but i was just an easy bird to pluck,

and all he saw

was an easy fuck.

sad poetry

Damn, so many of us were easy prey with no protection whatsoever! I hate that I and so many others feel some way about that instead of throwing fire-darts at expert predators without a heart. This poem is perfected expression. May its message reverberate through the people it needs to target. Truly thankful it was featured. It REALLY needed to be!

The line scraps from any dog’s bowl taste like nourishment to you hurts in the most honest way. That metaphor alone says everything.

  • Back to say congrats! Forgot to comment originally

sad that I predicted ending-young men preying on vulnerable women

  • Oof, that ending was so sad. And this poem gave me strong vibes of Taylor Swift. Loved it!
