One Split Second
All it takes to turn everything upside down

Blissfully unaware,
Rolling with the waves, happy without a care,
Until an unforgotten stare,
Blasts through and causes a scare.
******
Shock and disbelief,
The pitter patter of long forgotten grief,
A heart that stammers, stealing every second beat,
Breath forgotten, robbed by a secret thief.
******
Doubt and indecision,
Ignore this unexpected collision?
Or reach out and heal the division,
Maybe it’s too late for such a revision.
******
Fear takes hold,
No girl; go, be bold,
What’s the worst that can be foretold,
In a world so miserably cold?
******
Memories begin to roll,
Like a stalled movie starts to scroll,
Feelings churn out of control,
Hiccup of thoughts on patrol.
******
What is there to lose,
Except the every day blues?
Life slapping a face with its cues,
Is she willing to pay her dues?
******
The questions beg,
Thoughts overtake one’s head,
Proving once more she’s not dead,
But human after all, fallible instead.
******
Years span the turmoil,
When two become one in spoil,
A heart shrivelled into a tight coil,
And a trust issue set to boil.
******
Alone,
With new possibilities at the end of the phone,
When with a tortured groan,
She wonders if she’ll finally find her way home.
******
Precious minutes tick,
Her heart continues to skip,
Her thoughts roil and whip,
And the butterflies make her sick.
******
Suddenly a loud ping,
She panics over such a simple thing,
Will this be the end or is it about to begin,
As her heart suddenly grows new wings.
******
This all has to do with the number six,
Her lucky number thrown in the mix,
Sixty six, triple six, and the sixth of the six,
Is it that simple a fix?
******
Time will tell,
Her heart will rebel,
Her mind fights for intel,
Happiness or the grande finale death knell?

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

A trust issue set to boil, I especially loved that line! Well done my friend!
