One Million Lights

By Page Bishop

Look, Mom!

Night blue.

My favorite color.

How did they know I was coming?

One million tiny blue lights

Illuminate the path.

Blue—not blue

Color of her eyes.

“Do you mean Periwinkle?”

No, Mom.

Night blue.

You know—half blue, half purple.

Chit Chat,

Chit Chat.

Skips along the path.

Mom, hold my hand!

“Look, Cami!

There, across the water."

In one million tiny white lights-

“Peace on Earth," we say.

Words of hope

Reflected in her eyes.

Does she know

How brightly they shine?
