One for the Road
A last drink before a good cause

That was it, downed and gone now, no more
An empty glass, the finish that actually begins
Each year, tradition dictates the final drink
Guinness, the black gold, nectar of the gods
Now gone, my final drink, my last glass
June has faded away into the past tense
Before long the month of July rises up
A month to reflect, a time to be ⦠dry
No more drinking for me until the eighth
Raise the funds, to help fight the big āCā
Proudly I will say, in remembrance of dad
'Nothing for me thanks, I am Dry this July'

Also ... in case anyone comes across this later in the year. I managed to raise $1001 during July! š©· (original target was $500) and because of a pledge I made if I reached $1000 I will now be going 'dry' (so no alcohol) until Christmas day! š©·š©·š©·
I just read this now here in Sweden; is there a private cancer fund where you live or are you raising for research in general? It's such a personal and difficult experience to watch a loved one face cancer. Your father is surely grateful for your thoughtfulness. My best to you!
Such a beautiful cause. Hang in there!
A well written poem for a meaningful cause š Wishing you all the best on the dry July.
Your mention of raising funds to fight cancer and remembering your father adds a heartfelt touch to the narrative, thank you very much for sharing, love your works, hope to read more, subscribed.
