Filling in these stolen years
Emerging into a world that can be terribly cruel,
Learning the lessons of love that are missing from your life,
Look for me in the future where I’ll be patiently waiting,
I may not have met you, but you’ve captured my heart,
One day we will lament the time that has been stolen from us,
Then wander the valley of kinship together at last.

Mitochondrial DNA courses through your veins, meaning I am always with you,
Innocently unaware as you are at this moment,
Learn my name when you begin to wonder where you come from,
Listen to my heartbeat as it ascends through the stolen years,
Stand tall against your guardianship, fight hard for the knowledge that you deserve,
Time will strengthen our bond and eventually bring us together,
Ending the enforced separation placed upon us,
Ensuring our hearts merge as they should have at the time of your birth,
Destined to find each other, my maternal love is waiting for you, etched by the years.

To my grandson, Elliott Millsteed. I hope one day you find these words and know that the reason we never met was not of my choosing. In fact, I only know your name by accident as I’ve never been allowed to know your name or see of picture of you. Hence why I have spelt your first name wrong….for that I am sorry. I do hope you find me one day, or if I’m no longer of this world, then I hope you find these words and understand how important you were to me.
