On The Thirty First

Loosely Inspired And Submitted to The 'Things You Can't Say Out Loud' Challenge

By Marc OBrienPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

On the thirty first

Borders they tried to burst

Attacking first

Then commanding guards,

From tank fully cars

Ride in the back of your military hearse

Days knightly agenda, reported the worst

Seven thirty-one

Reds thought they won

But in the long run

They lost

Since Lithuania started to be their own boss

Surviving on a song and a prayer

Never the region was scared

Only hurt

About the deadly dirt

Communist staining the republic’s shirt

Instigating action filled with disgust

And distrust

Turning men to ashes and dust

We were not allowed

To talk out loud

It was not right

They were more powerful to fight

With all their might

World seemed quiet

About this border riot

That exploded in fury

Leaving bodies needed to be buried

On the thirty first

When an evil cursed

Invaded our spot

Ending lives with a murderous shot

But now we stand here

Shed our tears

Displaying smiling grace

Certain anything they do will blow up in their face

Since God walks with us

And this we do trust

Without a cross to bear

Surviving that July 31st bloody affair
