On The Beach

A one-handed effort, our heads squeezed together

to fit in the shot. Gurning faces, all tongue-in-cheek,

metaphorically – or not.

Sun-soaked lovers, vermillion, half-naked,

your blushes spared by the limits of the lens.

On our craggy Greek coast – all ours

bar the others, who may or may not have been there.

Was it the lizard that triggered our laughter -

the one we baited with a half-bitten berry?

Or just the moment itself? The thought

that we'd last forever. Captured together

in an image, if not in mind.

Your thumb poised on 'send' just out of frame -

a saucy little text, with another man's name.

sad poetry
