On A Summer Day

The shade beckons

On A Summer Day

On a summer day, I feel the heat of the sun on me.

Beads of moisture start forming on my forehead.

A cold drink is a distant memory.

The sun is beating down.

The temptation of shade calls out to me.

Do I continue or retreat?

I persist and continue walking.

Trees provide shade as I pass. The flowers beneath are safe from the sun’s rays.

Birds sit on the branches, protected, singing their songs.

Grass has resisted the intense heat. Wild plants flourish along my path.

Sun, we can’t be worn down.

You’ll come and go

but we will continue and thrive.
