A Narrative Poem on Dealing with the Unexpected

Grumble as we may that life is bruising, chaotic or daunting, there's one thing that it's not - boring.

Why? It's full of the unexpected. The paths we forge and, on a small scale, the little tasks we attempt to complete often lead us down winding, unexpected paths. Some of these lead us to unwelcome destinations, while others bring us to sanctuaries or. hopefully, utopias.

Regardless of where they lead us,  they are part and parcel of life, and we've to navigate them. So we assess them calmly, accept them, and extend some flexibility when trying to make sense of them.

When life leads us down winding paths, sit back, relax and see where they lead us to. Enjoy these narrative verses.

Old man Wong

With rickshaw ploughs along

Path of twists and turns

With sweat that burns

Rickshaw rider yearnssee

Where he can lay

His chair

and his weary head

He looks ahead

And takes in stead

The road that seems unending

And as he fights

To bring chair forth

Tired, worn, overwrought

He sees light

That brings him out to

A city

Of gold.

I love this poem and the photo of golden trees to go with the gold in the poem. I am type A so don’t relax enough but do handle the turns pretty well!

  • Assess them calmly? My anxiety could never. Lol. Loved your poem!
