oil
and it’s lingering effects

like hot oil splashing
from the pan,
I flinch away from your
touch.
Have you ever met
a love that burns?
I know now that my
affection blisters
and what I can’t whisper
I scream instead.
My hands are not sacred,
my hold is not gentle.
I take my fingers
away from yours and
there’s a scar.
The reward is not worth the risk,
so if you see me reach for you,
please turn away.

Incredible poem!
The reward is not worth the risk-- So many of us learn this after the scar. Great job
Love this! And yes, I've known a love that burns. Keep up the good work.

So, so stunningly written and hopelessly sad. Powerful depiction of human trauma and emotion, Trinity!
Goosebumps! This was amazing! I'm experiencing something similar to this right now. Great job!
I like the analogy!
Beautifully sad, congrats on Top Story! :)
What an impactful and emotional story you've woven in your poem. I feel the pain leap off the page, so to speak. Congratulations on the Top Story - it's so well-earned.
