Such sour fruits so subtly sweet

A fearful quest for this treat.

Into waist-deep waters growers go

To place the nets to reap what they sow.

Up torsos tiny colleagues climb

To dry eight limbs one at a time.

With calm diligence these farmers do

A task too frightful for me and you.

Praise be to the bog keepers

Who give fruits and wear creepers,

So that we may enjoy the holidays

Without suffering the many-eyed gaze

Of the wolf spiders tending to the bog

Or endure the treacherous watery slog

Required for harvesting cranberries.

As we are beneficiaries

Of the farmers' labors,

Let us praise our neighbors

Who wear the spiders so we don't have to.

Despite being arachnophobic, I found beauty in the prose dedicated to the symbiotic relationship of the wolf spider and the cranberry farmer. Working hand in hand, both require each otherโ€™s assistance in giving us the holiday gift of the cranberry, which so many people do not know how they are harvested. And yes let those without fear of the wolf spider continue the work where many with arachnophobia will not.
