Ode To The Chicken

You Feathered Beast

Oh chicken oh chicken you feathered beast

Messy and loud but cuddly and sweet

Your crows and squawks are music in the wind

Jumpy and quick, you leap, but don’t fly

With your strong sense of freedom you look to the sky

Egg laying hens and protective roosters

All together in one tight knit flock

Scratching and pecking you scrounge through the dirt

Meat, eggs, or companionship your life has so much worth

There’s no bird better fit to wreak havoc on this earth

From the early morning dew to the late night moon

You make sure everyone knows you exist

Your noise and your endeavors taking place in your coop

You peck and fight and jump and bathe truly making a house a home

You bring life to the party from your talons to your bright lumpy comb

Out of all the avian lives on this rock we live

You’re the one whose company I most enjoy

Fluffy colorful feathers, and majestic almost useless wings

With so many breeds I can’t have just one

It’s every day and every night, that you make so much fun
