a mighty yawn escaping its endless sleep
As stars, celestial guardians
bid their final farewell and retreat
White clouds, soft and ethereal
drift across the vast, azure deep
Heralding the dawn of a new day
the sea's watchful eye to greet
Seagulls take to the skies
their cries echoing far and wide
While eagles, majestic sentinels
circle high above the tide
The sea has risen from its slumber
its ancient heart now alive
Welcoming the new day
with a symphony meant to thrive
The wind, like a virtuoso
takes up its violin's bow
Caressing the waves
coaxing a melody to flow
A soothing, lilting tune
a lullaby for the sea
As the waves themselves
join in the symphony's key
The sun, a golden orb
casts its radiant net
Painting the waters
with a shimmering, luminous fret
And there, amidst the glittering waves
a fishing boat sets sail
Embarking on a journey
its crew ready to unveil
The secrets of the deep
the treasures it may hold
As the sea wakes up
its story once more untold

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
