Ocean of Dreams

A lyrical poem about diving into imagination and confronting fears

By Numan writesPublished 4 months ago 3 min read

Ocean of Dreams

Beneath the sunlit tides, I drift,

Where waves of thought and memory lift,

And currents hum a lullaby,

That draws me where my fears lie.

The shore behind me fades to gray,

A world of rules and light of day,

And all I touch is liquid glass,

A mirrored sea where shadows pass.

I dive, I sink, into the deep,

Where dreams awaken from their sleep,

Where coral cities breathe in rhyme,

And fish like lanterns mark the time.

Each wave a brushstroke on the mind,

A painting born of unconfined

Desires and doubts, of hope and pain,

A tapestry of sun and rain.

At first, the ocean smiles, serene,

A cradle calm, a silver sheen,

Yet deeper down, the waters churn,

Where ghostly fears begin to burn.

I see them rise, in shapes unknown,

The seeds of dread I’ve always sown:

The fear of failure, tall and cold,

The fear of words I never told.

The fear of loss, the fear of shame,

The fear that none will know my name,

They coil around my lungs, my chest,

A storm that never grants me rest.

I almost turn, retreat in fright,

But currents whisper: “Face the night.

The dark is guide, not foe, my friend.

Dive deeper still, and you ascend.”

So I inhale the ocean’s breath,

And push through walls that whisper death,

Naming each fear aloud in turn,

Until their flames no longer burn.

The fear of failure bends and folds,

Its edges soften, bright and bold;

The fear of shame dissolves to mist,

The fear of loss turns amethyst.

The deeper still, the waters gleam,

Like fragments of an endless dream,

Where islands float on silver tides,

And laughter blooms where sorrow hides.

A tree that sings in every breeze,

A mountain glowing green like seas,

A garden where the tears of night

Turn into pearls of living light.

I swim through forests made of thought,

Where memories are gently caught

In bubbles rising to the sky,

A place where only dreams can fly.

I touch a shell, it hums my name,

A song of courage, wild, untamed,

And in its notes I understand

The ocean lives within my hands.

It shows me fear is not the wall,

But tide that lifts us when we fall,

Each shadow cast, each current strong,

A teacher guiding all along.

The deeper I sink, the more I see

That imagination sets me free,

That every doubt and trembling tear

Becomes a pearl to hold most dear.

I rise toward light, yet still I keep

A piece of ocean in the deep,

A treasure born of waves and dream,

Of courage drawn from silver stream.

Now every night I sail again,

Through waters where my fears remain,

Yet now they shimmer, small and bright,

Transformed into a guiding light.

I ride the tide of endless thought,

Where stories live that can’t be bought,

Where worlds are born, and fears are tamed,

And every heart can be reclaimed.

I dive into the Ocean of Dreams,

Where nothing is exactly as it seems,

Where every shadow, wave, and gleam

Holds the power to redeem.

And in this ocean, dark and wide,

I meet the child I keep inside,

The one who trembled, shied, and hid,

Now learns the strength that courage bid.

So if you hear the ocean call,

And see the mirrored waters fall,

Do not retreat, do not despair,

Dive into dreams, find treasures there.

For every fear you face and name,

Transforms, ignites, becomes a flame,

And you will know, beyond all streams,

The ocean lives within your dreams.
