Did I—

the garage door—

did I close it?

the garage the click the hum the roll down

I think so no I didn’t maybe did I? Check

checklist: seatbelt coffee sunglasses wallet phone where’s my phone

in the cupholder cupholder cup lids too loose loose leaf paper

yesterday bring copies printer jam

papers still in tray tray door door not tray

red light blink did I see it or was that the stove light

the stove last week i forgot to turn off

turn off turn on turn signal tick tick tick

brain tick tick tick metronomic

metronomic astronomic gas prices I should get gas

gas gastronomic groceries

grocery list without the groceries

bread milk cheese bananas jam

strawberry jam— jam on biscuits—Bread and Jam for Frances

i loved that book i wonder where it is probably jammed in the bookcase

like printer paper last week still jammed

jam jam jam sticky like my brain stuck on the word jam

then eggs, scrambled,

scrambled like my thinking,

like the way I can’t tell

if I closed the goddammed door - panic! at the disco

panic over door up door down door stuck somewhere in between halfway

half dream half yesterday

I’ll check the app no not that app the light app not the door app

no time late late late

reverse turn gear shift drive

chain drive belt drive garage door opener

open closed garage door

garage door garage—

did I —

I love the scattered brokenness of the mind of an overthinker. The fact that you chose the garage to centre this piece around, was already great in and of itself. Because it is relatable. My heart did a flip when I think about picking up a cup with a loose lid. Oh my gosh, I cannot! I love how even the thoughts trailing off into another led to rhyming the 'ics'. That's so clever and scarily real. Jammed in the bookcase. Oh the horror! 😱 Did I. No you didn't. It was so skillful how you got me to engage even all the way to the very end. Congratulations on your 1st place win in the challenge 🤗❤️🎉🎉🎉

Fantastic read! I love the control in the uncontrolled throughout these lines, the descent into a sort of dementia, the repetition and free association. It’s all working SO WELL! Congratulations on your win, Sara.
