Oasis of Sand

Slips Through My Hand

By Holly NacePublished 2 years ago 1 min read

We meet at the oasis

Teeming with life

Yet we were something

More than this

-

Dancing where the flowers bloom

White petals twirling in the breeze

Under the eternal sun

The desert bathed in wistful peace

-

But something happened rapidly

Your shadow blocked all source of light

It grew and covered everything

The desert now engulfed in night

-

You covered the oasis

You were something more than this

-

When the shadow disappeared

The mourning sun began to cry

I find the oasis had been scorched

Leaving me hollow, leaving me dry

-

Left behind, there is only sand

That was all it’s ever been

The mirage begins to fade

And with it, hope, slips through my hand
