O waiting, watching moon

Author- Lindsey McNair

By Lindsey McNairPublished about a year ago 1 min read

O watching, waiting moon.

When the night wind stills, and the brush of Dawn yawns across the skies, remember me still.

Remember my eyes, sick and sultry— my gaze cutting through the night greedily.

Eyes of a dreamer, full of hope, a path to you.

O watching, waiting moon.

When my heart no longer beats, and my breath no longer carries the cry of my heart, of my wish—remember me.

Remember my voice, cracked and forgotten by the day.

A powerful omen, breathless wishes hidden within, but remember me still.

O watching, waiting moon.

When my tears no longer spill, in hope and longing for more time, for more still—remember me.

Remember the shape of me, that wickedly luscious silhouette—crafted from belonging and insecurity.

The way it danced and swayed, lured men to its cage, all in light for a chance.

O watching, waiting moon.

When my spirit rides with the secrets lain in the stars river, strangers eyes resting upon me—remember me.

Supernova— one last powerful, heart aching blow into this ugly world.

Guide dreamers eyes to my demise, and rest them there.

Nurture their hearts and souls, let their love lie there.

Give them truth and courage, let them feel the fear—one day they will thank you, for that little truth, in a world where truth is but a mirror.

O watching, waiting moon.

All I ask is that when I pass, you’re the one who doesn’t forget—remember me.

When my name is no longer whispered on the winds, or sparkles in the mist of the sea—carry my name into its arms, an ominous melody.

My fate awaits me, whichever path, or page—I do not doubt.

So all I ask, O watching, waiting moon, is that you remember me when my soul is put to peace at last.
