Nothing in My Head

For when you can't remember what you've forgotten

There’s nothing in my head

No empire

No ruin

And yet I

Feel something

About to

Come through it

There’s nothing in my head

Why do I

Believe it

A memory’s

Undoing

Oh did I

Complete it?

There’s nothing

Nothing

No grief I could have erased

There’s nothing

Nothing

No rage I have misplaced

There’s nothing in my head but dust in shapes where things once were

I’ve never thought or said it but my mind recalls a word

The syllables escape me and the meaning has been lost

But why do I still feel I’ve paid a cost?

There’s nothing in my head

No world for me to bear

No empire

to ruin

There’s truly nothing there
