a poem of how i am seen

I'm so tired.

Everyone thinks I sit around and do nothing all day.

But I can't explain to them,

I write and read and watch TV to keep away the pain.

There are no words for how hard it is to be a 20-something

in this day and age.

There are no words for how different life is now and how

we have boundaries and mental health breaks.

So many people my age

would never take a day

or a minute or a second

to help out their grandparents.

But I do

and I still don't get

the benefit

of the doubt

when I don't want to go out

and grab their dinner.

I offer to make them food at home

and I'm met with the cold shoulder

from my grandmother who thinks I'm lazy.

But I just offered my time,

I've taken off from life,

and presented a solution on a silver platter.

It isn't taken and the problem remains.

Guess I'll just go back to doing "nothing" all day.
