Not My Madhouse

It Never Was

When feelings are tangled conglomerates

unintelligible responses vocalize when asked simple questions.

Got a wealth of blank stares.

Silent churning thoughts for discreet calls to professional services.

Nervous laughter to punchlines that had no joke.

Zero-interval repudiation to

“Stop that nonsense,”

and

“Quit playing around.”

Raised eyebrows and suspicions but nothing concrete.

Requests for understanding and assistance a foreign language

as remnant tides of patient ones recede

well past decisions to leave a place that never felt like home

and live for each other as a result of

too much world

not enough earth

too much population

not enough community.

Who would choose to stay here?

Life in chaos has repercussions.

Sequestered souls create tormented minds.

Excruciating pain abandoned feeds on itself to quell hunger.

Repetitive trauma cycles and plenty leftovers

that policy and procedure can’t categorize—won’t touch.

People fall between cracks.

Become an annoyance

when their feelings in truth

are answers to questions asked for years

borne of sociopathic selfishness and suicidal rage

Captive exhalations a held hope,

the solitary key

to unlock freedom from its cage

in the belief it finds a way home.

This is great, and hold a lot of truth... too much world, not enough earth... indeed.

  • Your poem was so deep and had to much truth to it. I loved these lines: Sequestered souls create tormented minds. Excruciating pain abandoned feeds on itself to quell hunger. Repetitive trauma cycles and plenty leftovers I loved your poem so much!
