Not Mine

If you could choose who to love, who would you choose?

By S.J.EdwardsPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

I wish we could choose who our hearts fell for.

If we could, I would choose you.

You love me already, yet have seen my flaws.

You are strong, fierce, whilst sensitive and gentle.

You know when I need a soft touch or a bracing hug,

a contact so deep my bones know you care.

You look at me and see me in my entirety,

you see my soul and do not flinch.

I can truly talk to you, let my guard down,

not sensor my language, nor my thoughts

we share the same passions,

embracing the adventures of the wilderness

my spiritual depth matched only by yours.

I see the best of me reflected back in your eyes,

in your smile when you notice me looking your way.

You have a pure soul, an honest heart, and a wild glint in your eyes that has me longing for more.

I want to spend my time with you,

I want to embrace you with my whole heart.

I want to choose a direction and set off hand in hand,

on our epic journey of life.

I love you, just not in the right way

nor not nearly enough,

I wish I loved you, like a lover should,

I wish I could choose to fall for you.

Life would be so much easier

if we had control over our hearts.

Though maybe, a lot of the time,

we wouldn’t choose to love at all.

About the Creator

S.J.Edwards

I'm here to be seen. To stumble around in the English language in an effort to find the right words to convey the world I see, the world I feel. I'm hoping I'm not alone.
